ABOUT BRIAN
I began playing guitar and writing/recording music in 1996 while earning my B.S. degree in Aeronautics and Commercial Aviation at the University of North Dakota. I was fortunate to have two passions, music and flying. Throughout my work as a flight instructor and charter pilot, nearly all my free time was spent creating and recording music. I returned to college in 2000 for a second degree in Music & Audio Recording Arts at Full Sail University.
A third passion that showed up without invitation is mental health education, advocacy, and support. I worked for several years at NAMI Minnesota (National Alliance on Mental Illness) after I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder, type 1, in 2005. I share some of that experience in my 2010 memoir “Grounded by Bipolar Disorder; One Pilot’s Landing,” which was the first audiobook that I narrated.
I am a husband and father of two kids. My family lives near Minneapolis, Minnesota. I have a not-so-secret dream of finishing writing a screenplay (I can’t seem to find the end…maybe it’s a series?). I enjoy biking most days unless the roads are covered in snow and ice, in which case I resort to using my indoor rowing machine.
PODCAST: “Eureka Point Lighthouse; A not-so-secret space inside the mind of Brian Jost”
Brian Jost and the members of his imaginary band “Eureka Point Lighthouse” share their music as they discuss their experiences with mental illnesses, parenting, mindfulness and meditation practices, psychotherapy, and who knows what else. Heads-up… The topic of suicide may be heard in this show. Although Brian Jost and the “Eureka Point Lighthouse” band sometimes creates silly music for kids, this podcast is NOT for kids.
